KWE transport relief supplies to Gaza Strip of Japanese Government 2009/02/10
Kintetsu World Express, Inc. (KWE), based upon approval given at a meeting of the Japanese Cabinet held on January 23 to provide relief supplies to the civilian victims of attacks by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip of the Palestine autonomous region, has since transported these supplies.
The amount of relief supplies provided to the area was the largest to date comprising a total of 160 tons of Japanese Government stockpiles, 80 tons of which were shipped from Japan and 80 tons from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
KWE transported supplies from stockpile warehouses in both Japan and the UAE to the Eli Arish International Airport in Egypt. From that airport these supplies were handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent and delivered to the Gaza Strip.
The Japanese provided relief supplies were first transported on a flight from Narita to Cairo, then from Cairo overland to Egypt's Eli Arish International Airport. The UAE provided relief supplies were transported on a chartered flight arranged by Kintetsu World Express (Middle East) FZE from UAE's Sharjah International Airport to Eli Arish International Airport.
While the relief supplies were held up for more than 10 days in Egypt due to the Israeli economic blockade, the supplies finally reached the citizens of the Gaza Strip on February 8.
During this recent turmoil given the limited time frame a number of difficult problems such as securing space onboard an aircraft were encountered. However, KWE given the specialized knowledge and enthusiasm of its staff was able to successfully transport the relief supplies provided by both Japan and the UAE.
At the same time as praying for the speediest possible recovery for the Gaza Strip, KWE through ongoing expansion of its services remains committed to making social contributions both within this region and throughout the world.
