KWE (U.S.A.) Detroit Branch to Increase Warehouse Space by 50% from the Start of April this Year. With the Largest Space of any Japanese Airfreight Forwarder, KWE Strengthens Logistics Operations
2007/02/01

Following on from its expansion in October of last year, the Detroit Branch of Kintetsu World Express (U.S.A.), Inc. "KWE (U.S.A.)", a company registered in the U.S.A. that is part of the Kintetsu World Express group (TSE:9375), will further increase its warehouse space from April, 1 to cope with the increased volume of both imported and exported air and sea freight and also to further expand logistics operations.

Detroit city, situated in South East Michigan, is known as the hub of American automobile manufacturing.

Since KWE (U.S.A.) commenced operations as a U.S. registered company in 1969, its network has grown to its present size of 36 business sites and 26 warehouses. However the Detroit Branch, having been established in 1973, is its longest standing office.

Since its establishment the Detroit Branch has grown steadily, and now services approximately 200 corporations centering on major U.S. automobile manufacturers and also Japanese car part makers. Recently, in addition to the established Japanese market, there has been a noteworthy increase in the amount of cargo handling for all of Asia and particularly China.

Against this background, in October last year, KWE (U.S.A.) relocated and expanded both the Detroit Branch's sales office and its warehouse space. Although this initial expansion increased warehouse space to approximately 7,500㎡, given the increasing amount of freight handled, it was decided to further expand warehouse space to 11,000㎡ by the start of April of this year. While the warehouse will remain in its present location, this expansion will make it possible for KWE (U.S.A.) to deliver the improved services as outlined below.

  1. Delivery of parts to local automobile manufacturers on the JIT (Just in Time) and VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) basis.
  2. Emergency response to freight handling requests on weekends and public holidays.
  3. By increasing truck docks from the present 24 to 32, greater capacity for simultaneous on-loading and off-loading and as a result improvements in JIT response.
  4. Through the increase of the warehouse ceiling height to 9 meters, an increased capacity to receive and store cargo of varying dimensions, including everything from on-board electronic components through to large sized automobile parts.
  5. Acquisition of ISO9001 certification has made possible a level of standardization that enables the provision of the superior service required by automobile industry related corporations.
  6. Increased ability to perform product inspections as an agent for other companies.
  7. 7To provide customer service in the native language of our client corporations, our staff is able to respond to enquiries in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

Through this expansion KWE (U.S.A.) will further improve its high quality one-stop service and as a member of the KWE group is actively striving to support the central tenet of the consolidated management plan, being to become "The Leading Trans-Pacific Freight Forwarder."
