BKWE (China) Strengthened Freight Handling Systems through Relocation and Expansion of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) Bonded Import and Export Warehouse

Beijing Kintetsu World Express Co., Ltd. ("BKWE") a company registered in China that is part of the Kintetsu World Express, Inc. (KWE: TSE Code 9375) group has strengthened its comprehensive freight handling system through the relocation and expansion of its PVG bonded import and export warehouse facility. This facility commenced full scale operations from 1 August.

In January 2003 BKWE opened a 2,600㎡ import only bonded warehouse at PVG. However with the amount of freight growing every year it became difficult to handle these increases despite an expansion of the bonded warehouse space by 1,520㎡ to 4,120㎡. The new bonded warehouse brings together the previous three warehouses under one roof which in addition to increasing operational efficiency has also added additional floor space of approximately 1,000㎡ compared to the total floor space of the previous three facilities bringing the total warehouse space to 5,191㎡.

Further to strengthen BKWE's freight import service, one large scale ULD system (a Unit Load Device system that makes it possible for freight forwarders themselves to pack or unpack pallets and containers for airfreight transport) has been installed that occupies a total work space of approximately 500㎡. The installation of this system makes it possible to simultaneously process ten or more ULD loads.

As a result of this expansion, compared to the previous facilities, reductions in lead times of approximately 3 hours have been achieved because, after freight arrival, customs clearance and direct cargo removal from the warehouse are possible. In addition, this new facility has increased BKWE's flexibility in responding to the various needs of our customers. This facility is equipped with a total dust-prevention system as well as cool and strong rooms (approx. 640㎡). This, combined with an increase in staffing levels of 80 people, means that a major improvement in freight processing quality in areas such as damage reduction and storage operations is expected.

KWE continues to actively expand the development of its China network having at present a total of 97 business sites within the country. With a goal of reaching 100 business sites in the next year the KWE group will continue to focus on further expanding its China network.
